Looking into narrative structures of my trailer I am planning on using an open structure. This is to use a cliff hanger on the audience so that once they have been pulled in to my trailer's story line they will want to see what happens in order to find out the outcome therefore making my trailer achieve its purpose of persuading my audience to go and watch the film. Also, using binary opposites so I can show the use of good vs evil with my trailer's genre being a horror. This can show the meaning of good wanting to achieve and defeat evil in order to get rid of danger and be safe. It can also show hope, as with the evil being defeated, we can be reassured that everything is OK and will not have to worry about it in the near future. Whereas evil can show that they are emotionless and want to harm the innocent.
I am wanting to use black and white editing in both my trailer and print as I think that black and white can signify no life, dullness and dead. I think that it is perfect with it being a horror as it sets the mood and atmosphere making it achieve it's horror style. Also with the use of props, I can use blood which could resemble death, harm or danger which can be the semantic field of horror.
Using the hermeneutic code in my trailer to give the audience just a little idea of what my film is about without giving away too much detail about it. I want my trailer to be appealing and persuasive towards my audience and make them curious to know what happens. I can do this by limiting my explanation in my trailer and just giving the basic story line whilst background music is playing along with diegetic sound of screams. This can lead to the enigma code as I want my trailer to leave the audience guessing what is going to happen.
